A wine bikini is a deep, dark red two-piece — the shade of a full-bodied red wine rather than a bright cherry or a burgundy that leans purple. It is one of the few colours that reads bold and restrained at the same time, which is why it works as well on a beach as it does at a hotel pool.
Kate Kingdom makes two of them, both designed near Zurich and both produced in limited editions: the Artemisa and the Talasa. They are made in small numbers rather than mass-manufactured, so you are unlikely to meet your own bikini on the same beach.

If you want something you can wear from morning to evening without adjusting it, take the Artemisa: the knitted fabric sits softly and gives a little more coverage. If you prefer the classic string look with a higher cut at the leg, the Talasa is the one — it also comes in yellow, aqua, red, lila and black. Both wine bikinis use exactly the same colour, so the choice comes down to the cut alone.
Wine bikini fabric, sizes and care
Both are made from 80% polyester and 20% lycra. The knitted fabric stretches, holds its shape after salt water and sun, and dries quickly. Available in sizes S to L. Rinse in cold water after swimming and dry flat, out of direct sunlight.
